Seeking for the roots of the spiritual culture of

Satsuma and the origin of Shochu

Satsuma Kinzangura is sited in the mountainside with full of nature near the center of Ichiki-Kushikino-city, Kagoshima prefecture. The city is located in the very north of Fukiage seashore, the one of largest dunes in Japan. From the ancient time, it is widely known as the city of the gold mine and deep sea fishing of tuna.

Seeking for the roots of spiritual culture of Satsuma and shochu, Satsuma-Kinzangura has been built in the Kushikino gold mine that used to be the treasury of Satsuma clan maintained for 350 years. We are committed to pass the traditional culture down from generation to generation by exploring the history of the gold mine which had contributed to the 500-year history of Japanese liquor and shochu and even the development of Japan herself.

You will find out the traditional culture of Satsuma and the process of shochu in such a facility as the shochu warehouse built in the tunnel of the gold mine.

We are destined to spread the traditional spirit of “Satsuma” and we believe Satsuma Kinzangura will be the cradle for the birth of a new era.

“Tsure-Zure” and “Mankitsu”

Enjoy fully and relax in Satsuma Kinzangura- We newly set the reasonable plans limited only for weekdays - the tickets called “Tsure-Zure-ticket” and the full-service bills called “Mankitsu-Tegata”^*.
You can choose a right plan according to your purpose and budget. Please feel free to try it once.

You can spend a whole day in Satsuma Kinzangura—we welcome you with our fine dining restaurant and bar and provide fun services to explore the history in various facilities such as the tunnel warehouse and brewery.

Restaurant “Hotaru-an”

Please enjoy the local cuisine of Satsuma and then relax at the Shochu bar. Japanese-style rooms, dining table sets and private rooms are available to meet the needs for the wide range of guests from families to adults.

SPA “Toji-no-Yu”

In the shochu warehouse, there was a tradition to run public bath using hot water that was discharged while distillation. Now we constructed SPA using the plenty of mineral water that wells out from the underground tunnel. Please soak yourself in the ancient hot spring and just relax.

Shop “Kura-no-Nakamise”

We have an excellent selection of shochu including limited versions and premium products that you can never find anywhere except here. As the cultural warehouse of Satsuma, we are privileged to exhibit and sell various handicrafts and souvenirs. Please find something unique and cozy.

Location

Transportation and Access

• 10 minutes from JR Kushikino station
• Drive over Minami-Kyushu expressway and take Kushikino interchange. Drive over Route 3 to Sendai for approximately 10 minutes.
• 30 minutes from Kagoshima-city when you drive over the expressway

• Get off the train at JR Kushikino station and transfer to the public bus for Sendai.
  Get off at Noshitaguchi stop and it is 5 minutes’ walk from the bus stop.
• 3 hours and 20 minutes from Tokyo when you use public transportation after your flight.
